Why

'Why' tells on the one hand about ways of looking, on the other hand about beauty and love. It shows also the unexpected connection between them.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

For this film I have developed a new way of bringing drawings to life. I used drawings of my sketchbooks. Through the simple movements of the pages the characters in the drawings come to life. The film raises one single question and gives one possible answer.

LUC DEGRYSE

Luc Degryse studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Ghent as a student of Raoul Servais. After his studies he worked in an animation filmstudio in Hungary. His artwork consist of drawings and animation films. In 2006 a book was published with an overview of his drawings. Since 1988 until 2021 teacher at the Animation Department of the School of Arts in Ghent (KASK).
